Daniel Bowles is a scholar and translator of German-language fiction and works of nonfiction

He has translated leading writers including Thomas Meinecke, Christian Kracht, Uwe Wittstock, and Philipp Felsch, among others. For his translation of Christian Kracht’s Imperium, he was awarded the Helen und Kurt Wolff Translator’s Prize in 2016. At present, Daniel is a 2024 – 2025 Fellow at the Hamburg Institute for Advanced Study. He holds a Ph.D. from Harvard University and is associate professor of German Studies at Boston College. He lives in Somerville, Massachusetts. His English-language translation of Eurotrash by Christian Kracht was longlisted for the International Booker Prize 2025. -- The Booker Prizes
