About Translibris

Translibris is a catalogue of literary works in translation. Authors, their works, the translators who carry those works into other languages, the publishers who print them, the editions readers actually hold in their hands — all linked together so a curious reader can wander from a 13th-century Persian quatrain to its 1981 Anaheim paperback in a couple of clicks.

The site is small and deliberately so. Every entry is hand-checked. The aim is to be useful first — to readers picking which translation to buy, to translators tracking their own bibliography, to publishers seeing what's already been translated from a given language — and pretty second.

Wikipedia, ISBN databases, and Project Gutenberg supply some of the metadata; the rest is added by hand. Writing translations isn't glamorous work; the people who do it deserve a place where their books can be looked up alongside their authors and not just buried in a footnote.
