Robert Ely Bagg was an American poet and translator. He published several volumes of poetry authored critical studies of Sappho and Catullus. He graduated from Amherst College in 1957, and received an M.A. and PhD from the University of Connecticut in 1961 and 1965, respectively. In 1961, Bagg's collection of poetry titled Madonna of the Cello was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry and National Book Award.
